Rockets, Clay Pots, Multiplication, Writing

Hello again,

This week has started off with some exciting projects. The class has earned enough points for behavior to earn an extra art and science lesson.

For art, the students created pinch pots out of clay.

For an extra science lesson. We plan to invent ways to improve paper rockets. To do this, I can try to borrow a rocket launcher from my summer class or we could build one as a class. I'd like to build one for our class. See the list to the left for materials we need to build our own rocket launcher.

The class just took an assessment on multiplication, one of the major 4th grade standards we are reviewing. The test focused on their ability to use strategies to solve multiplication problems. We are shifting this week to learn about working with decimals. So far we have covered: area and perimeter, multiplication strategies, and now decimals. After decimals we start with 5th grade curriculum.

In writing we have been working on creating descriptive accounts of our experiences. We have also tried to focus on using a variety of sentence lengths to make the reading of our writing easier.

I'm going to try allowing comments on the blog. If you'd like to make a comment feel free. This is a school so keep it safe. One thought is people could comment on the blog if they have an idea or volunteer for something. Thanks!
