Friday: Vivid Vocab, IIR, Arrays, Raptors, 1,2,3 Noise level, Band

Friday was another hot one, but we were relieved to have 5 fans in the room today. Thanks for bringing those in. Good news, our kids exceeded their classroom goal by reading 1330 minutes last night. Keep up the good work. Today we started our first Vivid Vocab assignment and the project is to be taken home and finished at home. Kids have each chosen a word to: 1. Write in bubble letters on construction paper 2. Research and define the word in their own words 3. Use the word in a meaningful sentence 4. Create a visual representation for the word on the paper 5. Make it full of color 6. Present their word to the class on Wednesday (I added a "kid friendly research" link to the left to help with this assignment. Today we also defined IIR time as "Intentional (with a purpose) Independent (by yourself and for yourself) Reading". Students were given back graded ladybug dreamhouses for math and worked on the arrays of 24 and 48 and their various perimeters. We also spent a great deal of time training students on the volume level in class with a Level 1- silent, Level 2 (2 inch voice), Level 3 projected voice. We're learning how to keep work time to a level 2 voice. We were visited by Chad Davies (the band teacher) who did a demo for band and collected interest slips from the kids. You might be contacted by him next week. Finally we discussed our plan for Launching the Kettle chip sales next week. We need to have teams of kids create posters for the Raptor sales, visit classes and inform them of the sales, and perform sales at lunch on Thursday. If anyone wants to volunteer to help with any of those projects, please contact me. We will be working from 11:00 to 11:30 everyday next week on each of those projects. Thank you to the parents who brought in fans and also for bringing in washers. I'll take those off my wish list! Also Mr. E is loaning a lunch cart to C6 for now so I took the cart off the list. Stay cool this weekend! Sincerely, Kyle

Thursday 9/8 in C6

Hi Families, I have added a few new posts to the blog as well as a wish list to your left. Please check these out and if you have extra resources in any of the areas that you are willing to contribute to our class, that would be greatly appreciated! Our Day: Today we started with filling in our RAH chart and voting on a goal of daily minutes to be read by the class. Students are required to read 30 min/day which would total 840 min/day as a class. However last year with 25 students we were exceeding our goal of 1200 min/day as a class. The class discussed and voted on making our goal 1250 min/day for September. Today we read 1085 minutes as a class so we have some catching up to do. Last year as a class we read 14,976 min as a class in September and 40,486 min in May. Each month we increased our minutes. With this new goal we should be just a little under May's goal. So please encourage students to read each night and log their minutes and get your initials...Thank you. * Next we had PE *Then we discussed how to find a "Good Fit Book" and read for 20 min. of uninterrupted reading time * We had our Recess/Lunch * In math we used our knowledge of area to make "Ladybug dream house blueprints" * Then we decorated our writing journals * We discussed this blog * There was a fire drill * Finally we had Choir and non choir students finished some classwork Thank you for taking the time to read the blog and help out where you can. Enjoy the heat! Sincerely, Kyle

C6 is in Charge of Kettle Chip Sales Fundraise for the Raptors

Dear C6 Families, As part of our school-wide Roots & Shoots pledge to show care and concern for animals, the environment, and the human community - Our class is responsible for organizing the Lemonade & Kettle Chip Recess Sales to raise the money to continue the adoptions of our Sky-Hunter raptors. I hope that 2 parents (Julie has already volunteered for one spot) from this classroom will volunteer to COORDINATE the Tuesday/Thursday sales at 1st, 2nd and 3rd lunch recesses throughout October. This project involves: (Laurie Aguirre will purchase start-up lemonade and keep it in freezers - let her know when it is running low. She has 15 boxes of Kettle Chips. They will be kept in the staff phone room. She will get start-up change for change box.) - Prepare the cart for the sales i.e. - get change box from Kandie - prep lemonade in big container - get chips, cups and waste container (1st lunch recess is at 11:20, so we prepare the cart ahead of time 11:00 or before) Lunch Recesses - 1st 11:20 - 2nd 11:50 - - During sales help identified "sales students" operate the sale - pour, serve lemonade and chips - make change etc. Students purchasing should sit along walls to consume and then place ALL WASTE in waste container. - After sales - - clean containers and cart - have kids scan playground for trash - count money and record on Revenue Envelope (leave $20.00 change in cash box for following sale) - give to Kandie Revenue Envelope and cash box to put in safe

Welcome back to C6 Blog

Hi Parents and Students,

I assigned viewing the blog as homework for tonight. Students need to vote on the poll questions to the left based on our game this morning. Parents you are welcome to input your thoughts on the poll as well. We'll graph the results tomorrow.

Today we:
* Went to music
* Attended the flag raising
* learned about the nuts and bolts of C6
* Played a game: see the poll to the left
* Went to recess than lunch
* Learned how to head our paper for math and keep it neat and labeled
* Reviewed area and perimeter
* Set up our writer's notebook and wrote about a summer memory
* Learned about the science of combining
* Began reading "The Last Lobo" for read aloud

It was an awesome day!

Tonight kids need to:
* Read 30 minutes (at least)
* Check the blog
* remember to bring pics and stickers and decor for their writer's notebook.
* PARENTS IF YOU COULD SEND ME AN EMAIL TO UPDATE ME ON YOUR EMAIL ADDRESS THAT WOULD BE GREAT. PLEASE EMAIL ME EVEN IF YOU THINK I ALREADY HAVE IT (UNLESS YOU GAVE IT TO ME AT OPEN HOUSE).

Can't wait to see you tomorrow!!!
Sincerely,
Mr. J
