Great Start to 5th Grade: Summer Speech

Welcome back to school C6 Families,

We have made a great start to the new school year. Already into the rhythm of math workshop, independent reading, and RAH. Sunday reading was our first day to hit 1200 minutes as a class. This was our normal goal per day for RAH. It took only a few days to reach that goal this year! We have spent time weeding in our community garden and have done a mini inquiry on paper airplanes as well.

This Friday will be our first speech. The kids were given the information last Friday and are to prepare a speech about their summer vacation. I've given them a form to fill out and have encouraged them to put their information on notecards and practice in front of a camera. They are then to watch their "game film" and try again until they feel comfortable. I've attached some videos I modeled in class for them to model their speech after.

Have a great week!
Kyle

Great reading

Happy summer C6,

I just got back from 2 weeks of California camping and beaches...and one special day of Disneyland. However I think it's almost warmer here.

I want to recognize Emerson for reading 1674, Sydney G 963, Tyler 460, and Nicole 1115! I'm sure all of you have been reading, but these are recorded on the blog. Good work! Jaeden, your doc seems fine. Maybe try making Gmail account, mom and see if it is easier to edit through that. Let me know.

I'd encourage all of you to try the google RAH docs to the left. I love seeing your progress!!!

Summer Reading

Dear C6 Families,

Our class did an amazing job reading this year by reading over 340,000 minutes. Over the summer it is important to keep up the good habits and not lose this all the progress made this year.

I have set up a summer reading log for each student linked to the right. Each student should be able to click the link and keep a record of their work.

Directions
1. Click the link for the students name
2. Enter the minutes read in the row below the date
3. The minutes will auto add and calculate the totals in the right column and at the bottom right corner for total minutes read. It will also show how many more minutes need to be read.
(this is a google doc and can be copied and edited)

Important rule: Don't even go on to someone else's name because you might accidentally edit it. Also it is a good idea to keep a hard copy(one was sent home with your kids today) in case the minutes are adjusted.

Happy Summer!!!
